Reminders: Please submit your participation for attendance via email. This can be a picture of you doing an activity to share with your friends, providing an answer to a question that was in the morning meeting, or just checking in to share something you and your child did. When we come to the rug to begin our day we play the song Rise and Shine by Dr. Jean. The children know this means to clean up what they are doing at the tables and come to the rug. If you want to play the song to begin our learning time you can! Here is a link to the youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY Your child is invited to watch our virtual morning meeting by clicking the following image:
What is the weather outside today? Our weather helper always goes to the window to look outside before answering this! We look up in the sky to see what we see - is it cloudy, partially cloudy, sunny, windy, foggy, rainy? Following circle time we exit to centers where we also run our small group lessons/activities. The following are activities you can try today! Activity #1: On the piece of provided paper, put a small amount of the black paint on one side and the white paint on the other. Before continuing, guess what color they will mix together to be. Then use your finger (or a painting utensil if you don’t like to get dirty) to make the colors come together and mix in the middle. Label the color grey. Activity #2: Turn the piece of paper into a fan by folding it back and forth like an accordion. What can you make move by waving your fan? Activity #3: In your journal - draw what you would make your house out of and have your grown up dictate it for you. It doesn’t have to be the materials the pigs used - but if you think it should be, that’s okay! Finger Gym (Fine Motor) Activity: You have been given a small bag of water beads. Water beads have to soak in water for 24-48 hours to grow and soak up water to their full size. Choose a larger container that you can pour your beads into that will provide plenty of room for them to grow. Then fill it with a good amount of water - it will surprise you how much they can soak up! Keep in mind that water beads expand to be the size of a blueberry (or a little bit bigger). So even though it may look like you are not putting a lot in your container, once they expand you will have much more than you expect. Once your water beads have grown, use materials you have at home to help sort them by color. Tweezers, tongs, measuring spoons or cups, or even your fingers if you do not have these available. Remember our goal is to have fun while strengthening our fine motor skills. Art Activity: Decorate the blank mitten that might help keep us warm in the winter months! You could make it look like a mitten you have OR design your own new one! Name Activities: Name Mat - Your child can use this opportunity daily to practice writing their name if they are still working on it. They first touch each red dot under the letters at the top and spell their name. They then use their dry erase marker to trace over the yellow name. Then they write their name by putting a letter on each line. Name Cubes - This is a quick way for your child to practice spelling their name. First take the name apart and mix up the cubes. Have them build their name and then spell it for you. Mindfulness Lesson: (Weeklong activity - you could do this each day, or choose one day to do it) Watch This Video for our weekly mindfulness activity. This activity is also located in your folder for the day, along with review from last week’s introduction of mindfulness. Additional ABC time: Have your child sing the ABCs with you and point along to the letters. Choose uppercase or lowercase, or do both! If you would like to print this board here is a link:
