When we come to the rug to begin our day we play the song Rise and Shine by Dr. Jean. The children know this means to clean up what they are doing at the tables and come to the rug. If you want to play the song to begin our learning time you can! Here is a link to the youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyAD2OoFuoY Your child is invited to watch our virtual morning meeting by clicking the following image: What is the weather outside today? Our weather helper always goes to the window to look outside before answering this! We look up in the sky to see what we see - is it cloudy, partially cloudy, sunny, windy, foggy, rainy? Following circle time we exit to centers where we also run our small group lessons/activities. The following are activities you can try today! Activity #1: Match the lowercase letters to the uppercase letters on the Christmas tree. Activity #2: The letter F hole punch activity. Please look at the examples of how this sheet can be completed. In class we have been using a hole puncher to strengthen our hand muscles. However, I understand that you may not have one at home so this can also be completed by coloring in the boxes of the letter F. Make sure they are finding both uppercase and lowercase. When they are done, I always let them color the center picture if they want to. Activity #3: Pick a book and read it to a stuffed animal at your house! Remember that you can use pictures to help you read the story. Enjoy some Christmas music fun from a couple of our favorite artists!
Finger Gym (Fine Motor) Activity: (Extra choice for the week for any point during the week.) Glue the sequins (these are in the baggie in the OTHER section - they may be candy canes or other fun shapes) onto the line on the Christmas tree! Art Activity: (Extra choice for any point during the week) Decorate the circle ornament however you would like. You can even add it to your tree at home when you’re done. Name Activities: Name Mat - Your child can use this opportunity daily to practice writing their name if they are still working on it. They first touch each red dot under the letters at the top and spell their name. They then use their dry erase marker to trace over the yellow name. Then they write their name by putting a letter on each line. Name Cubes - This is a quick way for your child to practice spelling their name. First take the name apart and mix up the cubes. Have them build their name and then spell it for you. Mindfulness Lesson: (Weeklong activity - you could do this each day, or choose one day to do it) Watch This Video for our weekly mindfulness activity. This activity is also located in your folder for the day, along with review from last week’s introduction of mindfulness. Additional ABC time: Have your child sing the ABCs with you and point along to the letters. Choose uppercase or lowercase, or do both! If you would like to print this board here is a link:

Following circle time we exit to centers where we also run our small group lessons/activities. The following are activities you can try today! Activity #1: Write the letter F. Please have your child first practice writing the letter F on the letter F sheet that was sent home. Have them start at the dot and follow the numbered arrow to shape the letter. Please have them do all various sizes of the letter to practice and become more familiar with how it is formed. Once they complete this sheet, open up their journal to today’s date. Have them practice writing the F independently in their journal. They do NOT have to write in the lines. They can write larger since this will probably be easier for them. Have them practice both uppercase and then lowercase. Activity #2: Play the sweater guessing game! Read your child the clues for the sweater you are describing. Have them look at the picture to match it to the description. Write down your answer. When you get through all of them, help them check if they are right! Activity #3: Color your candy cane! You can use crayons, markers, paint, etc to copy the red/white candy cane pattern. Attach the small poem to it that goes along with today’s story.
Activity #1: Complete the fruit sorting activity. Activity #2: Go on a triangle hunt in your house! How many triangles can you find? Activity #3: Match the fruit to the color on the card. Name the color as a good practice to identify color names. Then for an extra challenge - find something in your home that is the same color. Finger Gym (Fine Motor) Activity: (Extra choice for any point during the week) Use the sunflower seeds in the baggy in the other section of this week’s materials. Find a cup and have your child practice tossing the seeds into the cup. Art Activity: (Extra choice for any point during the week) In the other section of this week is a blank stocking! I have included some fun stickers you can use when decorating this stocking. This activity is also located in your folder for the day, along with review from last week’s introduction of mindfulness. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JBerJQfwwBnyqE16NvS25dkC151Xy-eR/view Additional ABC time: Have your child sing the ABCs with you and point along to the letters. Choose uppercase or lowercase, or do both! If you would like to print this board here is a link:

Each candle on the Advent Wreath has a special name corresponding to a particular week of Advent. The second week of Advent is a time to practice the virtue of faith as we light the Bethlehem Candle. We should call to mind the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem. When they arrived there was no room at the inn – no room for Jesus. It is a time to continue drawing closer to Christ so that when He comes He may find a home in our hearts. |
